You have the great opportunity to showcase your most creative styles at the World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show on April 28, 2008 in The AmericasMart | Building One, 240 Peachtree Street N.W., Atlanta, GA. The following information will adequately prepare you and your model(s) for competition. Carefully read all the information below and complete and return the registration form or sign in on site.
VERY IMPORTANT: The overall appearance of your model(s) is essential. The model(s) will be judged on his/her posture, makeup, attire and presentation as well as his/her hair. Your model(s) should be prepared to walk and display your hairstyle to the to the judges. Plan your strategy together and above all, make sure that both you and your model(s) have a great time during your competition event.The World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show fully supports the educational advancement of students. When participating in a student competition put professionalism first. Keep in mind that contestants can be disqualified for not following the rules and/or arriving late.

Competition Rules
Student Braiding Competition:

A completed style cannot be entered into this competition. For the braiding competition - 3/4 or less of the model's hair can be finished prior to competition, however, 1/4 of the model's hair must be completed during the competition. The allotted time to complete the style, dress and make-up during the competition is 160 minutes (2 hours 40 minutes).

Student Barber Competition:

Barber time for style completion will be 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes). Barbers should dress their model(s) in the competition prep room.

Student Press-n-Curl Competition:

Student stylist time for style completion will be 45minutes. Student stylist should dress their model(s) in the competition prep room. Student stylist will prepare and complete model's.

Student Check In

Student competitors and models report to prep/pre-judging area. Check-in along with model. Model numbers will be given during the completion time. Check in time does not guarantee your model's number. (Checking in first does guarantee that your model will have #1.) This is your allotted time to style, apply models make-up and get dressed in presentation attire. All competitors must be in the prep room on time. You will be given a 15 minute grace period that will not be granted as extra time. Competitor may enter a maximum of two models. Only the model and student stylist will be allowed in the competition area and prep room. Competitor must supply their own tools needed to style their model's hair (clippers, combs, shears, mirrors, capes, products, etc.
You are to create a total look for the salon consumer using fashion trends in color, cut, make-up, and clothes fashion (day look only).
Models can be male or female (only female models for press-n-curl competition) and must sign release form before entering pre-judging. The model cannot be the student stylist nor can the student stylist be the model. The International 30 point scoring system will be used to select the winners. Judging will be done on a visual basis only. The decision of the judges will be final.

Competitor's models will be given complimentary entrance to the show on the day of their competition only!
No Exceptions! All student competitors must be a natural hair show ticket holder.

1. Braid Battle 3000 Student Competition -

Elegant, beautiful, dignified and stunning are a few of the adjectives that describe the winning look in this category. Use all of your artistic expertise to create the world's most beautiful braid style. Use multiple techniques, or use just one. Creativity, neatness and techniques are the keys for claiming this winning crown.

Models may assist stylist by handling items or equipment, but model must not touch their hair at any time. (No Product Restriction).

The following guidelines will help you with the preparation of your model:

Any braiding techniques may be used Hair extensions, hair ornaments, hair adornments and hair color are allowed Partial wigs, 1/4 or less and hairpieces 1/4 or less are allowed No Glue, fusion or adhesives are allowed. Yarn is allowed.

Stylist report with female models, and color work completed, nails and make-up done. Models hair is to be dry and combed straight back off the face.

Time allowed for blow dry, curl, and finish is 45 minutes.

Extensions and hairpieces are allowed but must be pre-attached prior to competition, (no pinned in). No ornaments allowed. Hair will be checked prior to competition.

Only one 1500 watt outlet per person allowed.

Models may assist stylist by handling items or equipment, but model must not touch
their hair at any time. (No Product Restriction).

3. Best Blades Barber Student Competition -

Awards: 1st Place Trophy, 2nd Place Trophy, 3rd Place Trophy, 4th Place Medallion

Competitors and models report to pre-judging area. Check-in with model dressed and receive model number. Do not cut, trim, shape, clip, comb-out or pre-set model's hair until you are given instructions to begin. All models must be cut at competition. Violation of this rule will result in the deduction of points or disqualification. The judges will inspect model's hair during pre-judging.

Barber time for style completion will be 90 minutes (1hour and 30 minutes). Barbers dress their model in the competition prep room.

The following guidelines will help you with the preparation of your model:

This is a Total Look competition. - Model will be judged on his/her total appearance which includes hair and clothes. (clean nails also get extra points) The theme for this competition is Keeping It Real. That means that we are looking for styles that show
skills-not fluff and cover-ups. We are looking for creativity and flawless skills for barber cuts that can be worn in the workplace or casually. Models must have no chemical straighteners/alterations to his/her hair. However, semi-permanent color, permanent color, light color sprays and chalks are allowed. Bigen color-in or fill-ins or cover-ups are not allowed. Barber/Stylist must show a transformation of the model's hair.

World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show is honored to welcome Mr. Andre Moore as its new Chairman of Student Competitions.

Andre Moore is one of the Who's Who in the Beauty Industry. He is a former Dean of Education for Unit one - Alabama Independent Beautician and Barbers Association Inc.

Mr. Moore is the former owner of Andre's Studio of Hair Design in Montgomery, AL. He has taught and lectured for Bronner Bros. International Hair Show in Atlanta, Georgia and he is currently an educational consultant for Southeastern School of Cosmetology in Birmingham, Alabama.

The entire staff of the World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show is looking forward to working with Mr. Moore in making the World Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Show's Student Competitions a most wonderful and beneficial educational
