FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Hair Care

How do I start locks?

There are several techniques used for starting locks.   Your hair texture will determine what will be the best way for you.    Examples of techniques used to start locks:

Individual Braids

Individual Two-strand twist

Comb twist

Latch locking

Palm rolling

Shampooing and fingering—

The technique and size used to start your locks will determine the outcome.  The thickness, fullness, versatility all depends on what technique, texture and length of hair the stylist is working with.

It is strongly suggested that you look at several photos of lock styles as well as live people with locks before deciding to have locks started.  Discuss this information with your stylist to see if your hair condition will be right for the style/size of locks you choose.  Whichever way you decide to start your locks I recommend using Lock It Up for maintaining your locks.  Here are some other products I recommend:

Total Body Shampoo= cleanses and provides moisture

Herbal Conditioner=Conditions and adds moisture

African Healinng=Oyl Use once hair is locked

Protective Mist Bodifier=Daily leave-in conditioner  Use once hair is locked.

Lock It Up=Starts and maintains locks, twists and styles natural hair

I have medium thick, very dry, very coarse, curly hair.  I just want to wear my natural curly hair without braids/locs/twists/extensions/etc.  I was looking at your website of products because of the moisture that your site mentions is in your products.  I have pretty nice curls after I wash and condition my hair, but they disappear once my hair dries, and my hair becomes a big puffy afro.

I recommend using the following products:

Total Body Shampoo= cleanses and provides moisture

Herbal Conditioner=Conditions and adds moisture

Protective Mist Bodifier=Daily leave-in conditioner

Lock It Up=Separates and defines curl pattern while eliminating frizz.

I want to know what is the best way to switch from relaxed hair to natural.

The best way can be several ways it depends on the condition of your hair and your lifestyle.  Here are some options:

Braid, weave or twist your hair using extensions.  Choose an extension style that will allow all of you hair to be covered for at least two months at a time.  Have that style or a similar one redone every two months.  Before having the style redone, have your stylist clip your ends.  The most important thing to consider when growing out a relaxer is to use a daily conditioner on your hair.  I recommend the Protective Mist Bodifier.  You can use it on any kind of extension style.  The Protective Mist Bodifier will provide maximum protection against breakage while providing moisture and conditioning.

You can also choose to cut the relaxed hair off and sport a short fro.  If you decide to do this I recommend using the following products:

Total Body Shampoo= cleanses and provides moisture

Herbal Conditioner=Conditions and adds moisture

Protective Mist Bodifier=Daily leave-in conditioner

African Healing Oyl=Hot oil treatment and shine

Lock It Up=Separates and defines curl pattern while eliminating frizz.

I was talking to a coleage and she told me there was a natural treatment I could put in my hair to loosen the curls.  My friend said it would soften my very tight curls and make them larger and easier to manage.  I see so many natural styles with the hair swinging and I can't even imagine mine doing that.  I would love for it to do so.  But all I can achieve is a "dynamite" afro.  Because of this I stay in braided an twisted styles while I really desire to let my husband enjoy my real hair.  When it's not twisted or braided I press it.  I can't even keep it pressed because it has a mind of it's own and snaps back.

The Curl pattern of natural hair varies from person to person.  For the most part Afro hair without chemicals will have a tight curl pattern.  The only way to loosen the curl pattern permanently is to add a chemical.  You will have to have length to your hair in order to achieve movement/swing.  You can achieve a temporary looser curl pattern and more manageable hair by using the Protective Mist Bodifier when combing out and blow drying your hair.  You can also blow your hair out and do a two-strand twist using the Lock It Up gel on each section you are to twist.  You can keep the two strand twist in or let the hair dry and untwist them to achieve a fuller longer look.

I have been natural for about 1.5 years.  I was told that my hair has a lot of elasticity, which is why my twists tend to appear shorter than they really are.  I was wondering if there was something that I could put in my hair that would still keep my hair kinky enough to twist yet lengthen it out a bit?

Product use

What kind of products should I use for starting and the upkeep of my locks?

Lock It Upalcohol-free styling gel is suggested for starting and maintaining locks.  Lock It Up dries soft and does not flake or cause build up.  It is light enough not to weigh the hair down but is strong enough to hold the hair while providing moisture and shine.

What is a good conditioner for preventing hair breakage and loss while transiting from  chemically processed hair to natural hair?

Protective Mist Bodifier

Can your products be used on chemically processed hair?

Yes, our products can be used on chemically processed hair.

Education

When is your next seminar?

Check the dates here.

Will I receive a license to legally do hair in a salon when I complete your seminar/workshops?

You will receive a certificate of completion.  This is not a license. This certificate confirms your credentials as a stylist that has had extensive training in the field of natural hair care, braiding, weaving, etc. The certificate also bears the name of  world renown educator, TALIAH WAAJID.  The name, TALIAH WAAJID has the reputation of quality training and services. The certificate is not in conjunction with nor does it override the laws pertaining to cosmetology or hair care in your state.  It is suggested that you check with your state board to confirm what the laws are for performing hair care services in your state.  Each state has different laws pertaining to braiding and natural hair care services.

There are a lot of techniques being taught in the three day time period.  Will I learn all of these techniques?

Yes, you will.  The hours the seminars and workshops are scheduled for are more than enough time to learn and review the techniques that being taught.   We schedule the seminars and woekshops so that there is extra time to address each students questions and to review techniques.

I do not want to take the complete seminar.  There are selective techniques I want to learn.  Can I set up a private class/workshop to learn those techniques?

Yes, you can reserve a private class/workshop with TALIAH WAAJID.  These classes are reserved by appointment only. There is a $250.00 deposit required to reserve a date. For more details call our home office toll free: 877-480-9328.
